Okay, I've solved the 3x3x3 quite easily.

But recently I've become quite addicted to playing around the 5x5x5 Rubik's Cube, and it's got me completley stumped, I know what I have to do -- At this point I need to line up the outer edges (not including the corner peices) and make them the same color. I already have the middle 9 on every face solved to the same color. So if I can solve the edges (not including corners) then the cube will bassicly just be a 3x3x3. But I'm stuck, and am looking for a bit of advice on how to get past this part.

So, have any of you solved the 5x5x5 (Proffesors) Rubik's Cube?

I can't fo the 3*3*3 so I'm no help, sorry.

Didn't even know there was a 5x5x5! The 4x4x4 was the biggest I've ever seen.

I'm with ST, I couldn't solve the normal 3x3x3 cube either! (Not without peeling off the stickers or prising it apart with a screwdriver that is :o )

I was told I was experiancing the Parity Error which occures in step 6 of solving the cube, and the algorithm for it seems to be inching me closer and closer to a sovled state evey time, so I'll get back to you when I can get it :-P

Steps? Algorithm?!

I thought the instructions went like this: "Twist that block untill you're blue. Then curse extensively..."

I've got a Homer head cube which is only 2*2*2 when I recieved it I thought it would be dead easy but it turns out to be bloody impossible.

Haha, I havn't tried one in years. I should see if we have one lying around.

Yeah, I got the Homer cube too! It's pretty difficuly but I did manage to do it (once!)

To me the cube is all about algorithms. For the 5x5, there are 7 steps. The 7th step being solve it as if it were a 3x3. To move a certain block to another certain place, you would use the algorithm that corrisponds to the output you want.

It's actually quite easy to solve them once you memorize the various amounts of algs. I believe the record time for solving a 3x3 is 11.3 seconds.

Thanks now you just make me feel thick.

If it makes you feel better it took me so long to do that I daren't muddle it up again now! ;)

I never did get much into them. The other day I did see a show that was all about the Rubik's cube and as Alexinator said the record was 11 sec. The problems are computer generated and randomly given the the players. One guy had an average solve time of 12.5 Thats amazing:eek: .

Talk about someone with no life! I mean you have to spend like so much time practicing, you could be spending that time learning something worthwhile :P

I suck at rubik's cubes. I can usually get them to a certian stage and not an inch past that.

something something something Parity Error something something something algorithm something 11.3 seconds.

 :P

I can get one side of a 3x3 easy. I got two sides once and was too afraid to try to solve the whole thing or else I would lose that precious blue-and-orange-ness

I do remember having a rubik's snake. That was simply fun to play with and not as much of a puzzle.

The snake wasn't a puzzle, it was a toy.

My best with the normal cube was a full side and two completed rows on 4 other sides and a broken window :)

Here are the steps to solve it.

1. twist until highly p'oed
2. peel off stickers (if that doesn't work go to step 3)
3. smash with hammer
4. give up
