Oblivion

am I the only one here who caved in and bought it in a moment of weakness?

The graphics are absolutely stunning. My video card isn't supported, but luckily I can see everything just fine (char creation screen has a mouse blip issue but all else is fine). I can't take screenshots yet, but I will as soon as I can. I can say that the character creation aspect is FAR beyond anything I've ever seen before in any game. I didn't know we really had the technology to allow a user to define 20 different attributes in a nose :P

You are joking right

P.S. Have you finally done the application for game college (uni) yet?

Nope, not joking. I have no idea what a "selline" is (I probably spelled it wrong too), but I can change 4 features of it and it deals with the upper part of the nose and how it moves into the forehead. You can do... anything.. cheekbones: puffy to gaunt, high to low, wide to narrow, etc... all on sliding scales.

There are at least 15 different sliding scales for face color aspects dealing with the face too (light/dark, orange/blue, pale/blush, etc). And a slider for age so you can get wrinkles and older looking faces as well as younger (looks like a 16-80 years old slider).

No, I haven't gotten much further than just the character creation mode :P I'll post some screenshots tonight if I get the chance.

PS. no and it would help if they published a deadline -_-, but maybe I'll post screenies of my (unfinished) portfolio for constructive criticism before I send it in

How about if we give you a deadline, purely so you pull your finger out and do something that you really want to do rather than procrastinating and regreting it later

How many forms do you need to fill in and once accepted when would you start your course?

I dread to think what sliders are available when you move off the face...

Game college eh? Best of luck! What's the course and where are you planning to study Gwen, if you don't mind me asking?

Al, I don't have forms - all that application gruntwork is finished. The portfolio are screenshots of levels I have designed (one fully finished and 5 more with varying levels of completeness), as well as completing two projects (I have all the hard work done, just need to polish them), and THEN I'm putting them all together in a website for easy organization since they'll have at least 60mb of info to sort through.

Course starts July 5, and deadline is roughly at the end of this month (very roughly...). Sean, it's at the Guildhall at SMU in Texas, and it's for a masters concentrating in level design.

And <cough> back to oblivion, unfortunately there are only sliders for the face. I don't think I can even adjust for height. That's.. what you were thinking, right? Height? :P

er, yeah, height...

Odd that they give such detail to the face - I suspect the players head is only a few pixels square most of the time...

I think I've seen an ad for Guildhall in Game Developer magazine before. I wish you well!

Well, ever played an elder scrolls game? I started with Daggerfall, so it doesn't surprise me.

The camera is, for the most part, like an FPS camera where you see your hands holding swords/torches/etc in front of you while you travel. You can back up even more, and see your back, but for the most part, the only interesting part of your body when its covered in 3 layers of armor is your face.
